A high-quality and lightweight aluminum case, great OLED display and excellent speakers: Thanks to its powerful hardware, the new ROG Zephyrus G16 can of course still depict current games, but Asus' 2024 model edges more in the direction of high-end multimedia. So, even if you have no gaming ambitions whatsoever, it's still worth taking a look at the new Zephyrus G16.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is an excellent gaming laptop. You can get this laptop with an IPS or OLED display; both have a 240Hz refresh rate, a fast response time, and G-SYNC support, giving you an amazing visual experience with clear images in fast-moving scenes. This laptop is available with powerful Intel Meteor Lake CPUs and NVIDIA 40-series discrete GPUs. Its overall performance is great; however, there are a few bugs causing lower-than-expected frame rates in some games (at the time of writing). RAM and storage max out at 32GB and 2TB, respectively; the former isn't user-replaceable, but the latter is.

Taken as a whole package, there is a lot to love about the Asus ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605. Its processor is fast and power efficient, the refined chassis, keyboard, and touchpad are excellent and its gaming performance is on par with other laptops equipped with an RTX 4070. And that Nebula Display is a great screen. It doesn’t have many GPU options, however, but regardless of your options it’s tough to justify its remarkably high price tag.

The 2024 ROG Zephyrus G16 takes one step forward and two steps back — vastly improving the premium construction and audio/visual experience, but sacrificing the power going to those internals for a relatively poor price-to-performance ratio. Asus is on the right track to making one of the best gaming laptops, but this needs more time in the oven to be worthwhile.

The ROG G16 configuration we reviewed is pricey but a good all-around system for both gaming and creative work. If you want to save money and don't have heavy power requirements, opt for a less expensive configuration, though.
