AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D vs. Intel Core i9-14900K: 45 Game Benchmark

What a time to be alive.. AMD absolutely nailing it for desktop processors. If somebody had predicted this 10 years ago they would have been laughed at.

The fact that AMD has got this far in just 7 years from the first release of Zen, is a massive achievement.

Here in the UK at least:

Intel 285K - £570 (Out-of-Stock)
Intel 14900K - £420-£500 (depending on F, KF or K varients)
AMD 9800X3D - £500 (Out-of-Stock)
AMD 9950X - £600

If the 9950X3D does put 3D V-Cache on both CCD's, that might be pretty extreme on cost, probably looking at £700-£800 if not more if prices are already this high.

Find it interesting that, when AMD is in the losing seat, their CPU's are also much cheaper, when Intel is in the losing seat, na, just keep prices high, allowing AMD to charge even higher prices...

I just bought a laptop with a i9-14900HX and man, I’m impressed. It’s faster than my 5700X3D in WoW (in major cities). The desktop GPU is much better. That’s with lowering the max TDP by 10% too. The laptop is locked or I’d undervolt it. I just hope it doesn’t explode anytime soon.

Now redo all those tests with an AMD GPU, and you will see even more performance because GPU + CPU from AMD side get a boost compared to intel + nvidia.

Yeah, a slower GPU will somehow make the CPU faster because of a "boost".

ROFL.
I'm sure the 500 people that would spend $1800-$2400 for a RTX 4090 GPU and $500.00+ for a CPU will rejoice when they run their games at 1080P.
Hey look, another poster who doesnt understand how benchmarks work!
The data looks same as Hardware Unboxed Youtube channel's video that just came out
This may shock you, but HUB and techspot are....RELATED. DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!!
A massacre. Yet amazingly on many forums people are still claiming intel is the way to go for gaming. :/

Unbelievable.
Where? I see forums loaded with people recommending only x3ds for pure gaming. Intel gets recommended if you do productivity AND gaming, because the 285k is genuinely good at productivity tasks.

Question which cpu can hit let's say a solid 144 fps at 4k in cyberpunk 2077?

Also which cpu will mitigate the cpu bottleneck with upcoming 5090?

That's why I use my 4080 with a 16" 600Hz 1080p monitor. ... are you serious???
You benchmark games running at 1080p on a 4090 so the GPU won't become the bottleneck... That way you can compare how each CPU behave on each game.

Wow, lots of Intel fanboys out in this thread. Or maybe it's Intel's marketing team since they don't have a decent product to counter with and want to try to minimize the damage. If only they spent their money on R&D instead of marketing...

Neither. In Cyberpunk @ 4K max on a 4090, the difference between the 9800X3D (~$480) and the i3 14100F (~$100) is 1-2%. 74fps vs 72fps

As for the 5090 question, not sure, but there will probably be 0 fps difference between Intel an AMD's top offerings at 4K for a long time.

It's Intel, it'll explode :)

Using a game sample size of 1 does not tell the whole story for 4K gaming.

While it is true that the GPU is the most important factor for 4K gaming, the CPU is becoming more important.

Looking at the charts from TPU, across a wider spectrum of games the 14100 is ~92% of the performance of the 9800X3D. While this is still close, it’s certainly not a difference of 0 currently. This gap will only grow as GPUs become more powerful and games become more demanding on the CPU.

Good to know that 9800x3d is doing well, but it doesn't matter with the scalping price now. In Spain, it's 850 - 900 euros so I'll wait about a year at least to even think about buying it xD

A massacre, but it's also sad that the entire zen5 line could be so much better if AMD simply equipped the CCDs with more L3
Cores are bandwidth starved. They also need a much faster IF and memory support and new I/O die. An analysis of 9950X shows it actually requires DDR5 20000 to not be bandwidth restricted. L3 can help but Zen 5 has shown the architecture is pushed beyond its limits and Zen 6 is about addressing all of these limitations in probably the final Zen architecture release. Zen 7 will be a new architecture and probably be called something else.
